midterm breaks
Semester's halfway respites
Midterm breaks are scheduled vacations that fall roughly halfway through an academic term, typically lasting a few days to a week.
They provide students and faculty a pause between the start of the semester and final exams: I'm going home for midterm break.
Some schools call them fall break or spring break depending on the semester.
