midribs
Central leaf veins
Midribs is the plural of midrib, the central vein running down the length of a leaf.
The midrib provides structural support and serves as the main channel for water and nutrients between the leaf blade and stem: Remove the tough midribs from the kale before cooking.
In botany, midribs are distinguished from the smaller secondary veins that branch off from them.
