microwave towers
Tall communication relays
Microwave towers are tall structures equipped with dish antennas that transmit data via microwave radio signals.
They relay telephone calls, television broadcasts, and other communications across distances by sending focused beams from tower to tower in a line-of-sight chain.
Though largely supplanted by fiber optics and satellites, they remain common in remote areas: A row of microwave towers dotted the ridgeline.
