march cadence

Soldiers' stepping chant

A march cadence is a rhythmic chant or song used to keep military troops in step while marching.

The cadence caller, usually a drill instructor or squad leader, sings a line and the formation echoes it back, maintaining uniform pace and boosting morale.

The songs often feature themes of military pride, dark humor, or bravado: Your left, your left, your left-right-left.

Also called a running cadence when used during physical training.
