mangey
Patchy and diseased
Mangey is a less common spelling of mangy, describing something affected by mange—a skin disease caused by mites that leaves animals with patchy, scabby fur.
Extended from this, mangey describes anything shabby, squalid, or in poor condition: a mangey old couch no one wanted to sit on.
The spelling with an e is sometimes preferred to preserve the soft g sound before the y.
