man-made reservoir

Constructed water storage

A man-made reservoir is a body of water created by damming a river or excavating land to store water for human use—drinking supply, irrigation, hydroelectric power, or flood control.

Unlike natural lakes, these are engineered: The man-made reservoir supplies water to three counties.

Also called an artificial reservoir or simply reservoir when context is clear.
