lunch ladies
School meal staff
Lunch ladies are the women who work in school cafeterias, serving food and managing meal lines.
The term is affectionate and slightly nostalgic, evoking memories of hairnets, serving spoons, and institutional trays: The lunch ladies always gave me an extra scoop of mashed potatoes.
Though the role includes men, the traditional term persists.
