serving line
Buffet waiting area
A serving line is an arrangement where food is laid out for people to move along and receive portions, as in cafeterias, buffets, or military mess halls.
The term refers both to the physical setup—counters, steam tables, sneeze guards—and to the queue of people moving through it: The serving line stretched out the door.
