lunch buddy
Midday dining friend
A lunch buddy is someone you regularly eat lunch with, typically a coworker or classmate rather than a close friend.
The relationship is defined by the meal itself—pleasant company during a midday break without necessarily extending beyond it: She's not really a friend, more of a lunch buddy from work.
The term can also refer to programs pairing volunteers with children or elderly people for companionship over meals.
