luck of the devil
Inexplicable good fortune
Luck of the devil describes extraordinary good fortune, especially the kind that seems undeserved or that rescues someone from consequences they ought to face.
The phrase suggests fortune so improbable it might be supernaturally granted: He crashed the car into a ditch and walked away without a scratch—luck of the devil.
Often used with grudging admiration or exasperation.
