fortune smiles
Fate shows kindness
Fortune smiles is a personification of luck as a benevolent figure bestowing favor.
When fortune smiles on someone, circumstances align in their favor through no effort of their own: Fortune smiled on us that day—we found the last two tickets.
The phrase echoes the ancient Roman goddess Fortuna, who determined human fate.
