lookups

Checking for information

Lookups are instances of searching for information.

The word appears most often in computing and data contexts: database lookups, table lookups, DNS lookups.

A lookup retrieves stored information by matching a key or query.

Outside technical use, lookups simply means acts of looking something up: I did a few lookups before buying the car.
