long players
Full-length vinyl records
Long players, often abbreviated LP, are vinyl records designed to hold more music than earlier formats, typically spinning at 33⅓ revolutions per minute.
Introduced in the mid-20th century, they became the standard format for albums, holding around 20-25 minutes of audio per side.
The term persists even as vinyl has become more of a collector's medium than a mainstream one.
I inherited my dad's collection of long players from the seventies.
