Outhouse over pit
A long drop is a type of outdoor toilet, common in New Zealand and parts of Africa, where waste falls into a deep pit dug below the seat.
The depth of the pit—often several meters—allows for decomposition and reduces odor compared to shallow latrines.
Long drops are standard in remote areas, campgrounds, and hiking trails where plumbing isn't available.
