long balls
Downfield aerial throws
Long balls refers to a style of play in soccer (and sometimes other sports) where the ball is kicked far upfield rather than passed through short, controlled sequences.
The strategy bypasses midfield buildup in favor of direct attacking: They abandoned possession football and just started playing long balls.
In vulgar slang, long balls describes testicles that hang low, typically from age or heat.
