live vaccines
Attenuated microbe injections
Live vaccines contain weakened but still-living versions of the pathogens they protect against.
The weakened organisms can replicate enough to trigger an immune response without causing full-blown disease in healthy people: The MMR is a live vaccine, so immunocompromised patients may need alternatives.
Contrast with inactivated vaccines, which use killed pathogens.
