linkmen
Torch-carrying street escorts
Linkmen is the plural of linkman.
In British usage, a linkman is a broadcaster who provides transitions between segments or connects to reporters in the field.
Historically, a linkman was a torch-bearer who carried a link—a pitch-covered torch—to light the way through dark streets for pedestrians.
