light-water
Regular hydrogen oxide
Light-water is ordinary water (H₂O), distinguished from heavy water, which contains the hydrogen isotope deuterium.
The term appears almost exclusively in nuclear contexts, where light-water reactors use regular water as both coolant and neutron moderator: The plant operates a light-water reactor design.
