lifeguard stations
Coastal rescue towers
Lifeguard stations are elevated structures on beaches or at pools where lifeguards sit to monitor swimmers.
The height provides a clear view of the water and shoreline.
Most are simple wooden or metal towers with a seat and sun shade: The red flag was up at the lifeguard station.
Some beaches have permanent buildings that also store rescue equipment.
