knock knock joke

Who's there? humor

A knock knock joke is a formulaic children's joke built on a call-and-response pattern.

One person says "knock knock," the other asks "who's there?", receives a name or phrase, asks "[name] who?", and gets a punchline—usually a pun: Knock knock. Who's there? Boo. Boo who? Don't cry, it's just a joke.

The format is so rigid that subverting it has become its own joke category.
