A kevlar vest is body armor made from Kevlar, a synthetic fiber strong enough to stop bullets and knife blades.
Law enforcement officers and soldiers wear them under or over clothing for protection.
The term often applies loosely to any bulletproof vest regardless of material: The officer's kevlar vest saved his life.
