kenjutsu

Japanese sword art

Kenjutsu is the Japanese art of sword fighting, particularly with the katana.

Unlike kendo, which evolved into a competitive sport with bamboo swords and protective gear, kenjutsu emphasizes traditional combat techniques as practiced by samurai: She studied kenjutsu at a traditional dojo in Kyoto.

The word combines *ken* (sword) and *jutsu* (art or technique).
