jumping-off point
Where ventures begin
A jumping-off point is a place or position from which something begins—a starting point for a journey, project, or line of thinking.
The phrase suggests launching into something larger: The research paper was a jumping-off point for her dissertation.
It implies you won't stay there long; the point is to leap from it into new territory.
