jaguar warriors
Mesoamerican elite fighters
Jaguar warriors were elite Aztec soldiers who had proven themselves in battle by capturing enemies for sacrifice.
Named for the jaguar—a symbol of power and the night—they wore distinctive jaguar-skin armor and helmets.
Along with eagle warriors, they formed the highest military orders in Aztec society, accessible to commoners who demonstrated exceptional valor.
The jaguar warriors led the assault on the enemy city.
