invasive weed
Unwanted spreading plant
An invasive weed is a plant that spreads aggressively outside its native range, outcompeting local vegetation and disrupting ecosystems.
The term combines two judgments: the plant is unwanted (a weed) and it colonizes new territory rapidly (invasive).
Kudzu is the most notorious invasive weed in the American South.
Land managers and gardeners use the phrase to distinguish aggressive non-native plants from ordinary weeds.
