indie bands
Non-major label acts
Indie bands are musical groups operating outside major record labels, typically on independent labels or self-released.
The term originated in alternative rock but now spans genres.
Indie often suggests a particular aesthetic—lo-fi production, unconventional song structures, or deliberate obscurity—regardless of actual label status: I've been listening to a lot of indie bands lately.
The line between indie and mainstream has blurred as the sound became commercially viable.
