inarticulateness

Inability to express

Inarticulateness is the quality of being unable to express oneself clearly or effectively.

It may describe a temporary state—struggling to find words when flustered or emotional—or a more persistent difficulty with verbal expression: His inarticulateness in interviews cost him the job.

The word also applies to sounds or utterances that lack clear form: the inarticulateness of his mumbled reply.
