inarticulate
Struggling with words
Inarticulate describes someone unable to express themselves clearly or fluently: He became inarticulate with rage.
It also applies to speech itself—mumbled, garbled, or poorly formed: an inarticulate reply.
More literally, inarticulate sounds lack the distinct segments of speech: an inarticulate moan.
The word can suggest someone who lacks verbal sophistication generally, or simply someone rendered temporarily speechless.
