imperial era

Age of emperors

An imperial era is a period when a nation extends dominion over foreign territories, building an empire through conquest, colonization, or economic control.

The term often refers specifically to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when European powers carved up Africa and Asia: Britain's imperial era shaped much of the modern world.

In Japanese history, imperial era names mark the reign of each emperor.
