immunosuppressed
Weakened bodily defenses
Immunosuppressed describes a state in which the immune system is weakened or less able to fight infection and disease.
This may result from medical treatment—such as chemotherapy or drugs given after organ transplants—or from conditions like HIV/AIDS.
Immunosuppressed patients are especially vulnerable to infections that healthy people fight off easily.
