idle mode
Device doing nothing
Idle mode is a low-power state in which a device remains on but performs minimal activity, waiting for input or a task.
Phones enter idle mode when the screen is off; computers idle when unused.
The term extends figuratively to people doing nothing productive: I've been in idle mode all weekend.
