hoop dancer
Circular motion artist
A hoop dancer is a performer who manipulates one or more hoops as part of a dance, creating shapes and patterns by spinning, interlocking, or passing hoops around the body.
The term most often refers to practitioners of Native American hoop dance, a ceremonial and competitive tradition using dozens of small hoops to form symbolic figures—eagles, butterflies, spheres—while dancing to drum rhythms.
Outside Indigenous contexts, hoop dancers may perform with larger hoops in circus, fitness, or flow arts settings.
