Holy unction is a Christian sacrament in which a priest anoints a person with consecrated oil, typically administered to the sick or dying.
Also called extreme unction or last rites when given near death, the ritual offers spiritual comfort and, in Catholic tradition, forgiveness of sins: The priest arrived to give her holy unction.
