holding call
Grabbing penalty flag
A holding call is a penalty in American football for illegally grabbing or restraining an opponent.
Offensive holding typically costs ten yards; defensive holding costs five yards and an automatic first down.
The call is among the most common penalties: The touchdown was nullified by a holding call.
Fans often dispute whether holding actually occurred.
