hemoglobin A1c
Glycated blood protein
Hemoglobin A1c is a form of hemoglobin with glucose attached, used as a measure of average blood sugar over the previous two to three months.
Unlike daily glucose tests that capture a moment, A1c reflects long-term blood sugar control—crucial for diagnosing and managing diabetes.
Results are reported as percentages: Her A1c dropped from 8.2 to 6.5.
Also called glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c.
