heel to toe
Foot-length stepping method
Heel to toe describes walking or placing the feet so that the heel lands first, then the foot rolls forward to the toe—the natural gait of careful, deliberate movement.
It's used for sobriety tests where police ask someone to walk a straight line: Walk heel to toe for nine steps.
The phrase also describes how shoes or feet are measured, from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe.
