heel position

Canine walking command

Heel position is a dog training term for when a dog walks or sits close beside its handler, typically on the left side with its shoulder aligned to the handler's leg.

The position keeps the dog attentive and under control during walks or obedience exercises: She taught the puppy to stay in heel position without pulling on the leash.
