hate click
Angry engagement bait
A hate click is clicking on content specifically because it annoys or enrages you—the digital equivalent of rubbernecking at a car crash.
Media outlets exploit this by crafting headlines designed to provoke outrage, knowing that angry engagement still generates ad revenue: I know I shouldn't give them the hate click, but I had to see how bad the article was.
