hardtails
Bikes without rear
Hardtails are mountain bikes without rear suspension—only a front suspension fork.
The rigid rear triangle saves weight and cost while transferring pedaling power more directly: I prefer a hardtail for cross-country riding.
The term also applies to certain motorcycles with rigid rear frames, and to fish of the jack family, named for the bony plates near their tails.
