gross wages

Pay before withholdings

Gross wages are total earnings before any deductions.

This is the full amount an employer pays for work performed—hourly wages, salary, overtime, bonuses, commissions—before taxes, insurance premiums, retirement contributions, or other withholdings are subtracted.

Her gross wages were $4,200 per month, but after deductions she took home about $3,100.

Contrast with net wages, which is what actually reaches your pocket.
