A greedy dog is one that wolfs down food voraciously, guards resources, or always wants more than its share.
The phrase appears in children's fables—most famously Aesop's dog who, seeing his reflection while crossing a bridge, snaps at the "other" dog's meat and loses his own.
Beyond literal dogs, it describes anyone who overreaches from greed: Don't be a greedy dog—leave some for the rest of us.
