grease pencils

China markers, basically

Grease pencils are waxy writing instruments that mark on smooth, non-porous surfaces where ordinary pencils won't work—glass, plastic, metal, glossy paper, film.

The marks resist water and smudging but can be wiped off with a cloth.

They're used for labeling, marking editing points on film, and writing on transparencies.

Also called china markers or wax pencils.
