grape stomping
Barefoot wine-making
Grape stomping is the traditional method of crushing grapes by foot to extract juice for winemaking.
Workers tread barefoot in vats or barrels, mashing the fruit.
Once standard practice, it's now largely ceremonial or touristic, though some winemakers claim it produces superior results by crushing gently without breaking seeds.
The practice gained comedic fame from a 1956 *I Love Lucy* episode.
