government institutions
Official public bodies
Government institutions are the formal organizations through which a state exercises authority and administers public affairs—legislatures, courts, executive agencies, regulatory bodies, and the like.
The term often appears in discussions of democratic stability or reform: Weak government institutions invite corruption.
It can carry either neutral descriptive force or skeptical connotations about bureaucratic power.
