good day
Polite arrival phrase
Good day is a formal greeting or farewell, more common in British English and somewhat old-fashioned in American usage.
As a greeting, it substitutes for good morning or good afternoon: Good day, sir.
As a farewell, it often signals finality or dismissal: I said good day!
The phrase also appears in the Australian G'day.
