well met
A cordial greeting
Well met is an old-fashioned greeting expressing pleasure at encountering someone, now largely confined to historical fiction and fantasy settings: Well met, traveler!
The phrase suggests a fortunate or auspicious meeting.
It survives mainly in the expression hail-fellow-well-met, describing someone who is heartily friendly, often excessively or insincerely so.
