gold bricking
Pretending to work
Gold bricking is avoiding work while appearing busy, or doing the minimum to get by.
The term comes from the old con of selling gold-plated lead as solid gold—the surface looks productive, but there's nothing underneath.
Half the office is gold bricking while the boss is away.
Also spelled as one word: goldbricking.
