global reserves
International stored wealth
Global reserves are assets held by central banks and governments to back liabilities and support their currencies—typically foreign currencies, gold, and special drawing rights from the International Monetary Fund.
Countries maintain global reserves to stabilize exchange rates, pay international debts, and weather economic crises: China holds the world's largest global reserves.
The term also applies to worldwide supplies of natural resources: global reserves of oil, global reserves of lithium.
