glass-half-full

Seeing the positive

Glass-half-full describes an optimistic outlook—seeing what's present rather than what's missing.

The phrase comes from the question of whether a partially filled glass is half full or half empty, a test of temperament.

A glass-half-full person expects things to work out: She's always been glass-half-full about the economy.

The opposite is glass-half-empty.
