gipsies

Itinerant traveling folk

Gipsies is an older spelling variant of Gypsies, the plural of Gypsy—a member of the Romani people, a traditionally nomadic ethnic group with origins in South Asia.

The term extends to anyone perceived as wandering or unconventional.

Both spellings are now often considered offensive; Romani or Roma is preferred.

A caravan of gipsies passed through the village.
